Your agreement with layyoff

These Terms & Conditions govern your use of the Layyoff website and services operated by layyoff (“we”, “us”, or “our”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not create an account or use the service.

You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into this agreement. If you act for a company or another organization, you confirm that you have authority to act on its behalf.

What Layyoff does

Layyoff is a referral-led talent network intended to connect experienced tech professionals, including those affected by layoffs, with hiring teams through trusted referrals and human-led hiring.

The current website supports account registration and authentication. Candidate, hiring, and referral workflows may be introduced or changed over time. Descriptions of our vision are not promises that every feature or opportunity is currently available.

We do not guarantee introductions, interviews, employment, candidate suitability, response times, or hiring outcomes. Unless expressly agreed separately, layyoff is not your employer or a party to an employment agreement. Candidates and employers make their own decisions and must independently verify relevant information.

Your account

Provide accurate account information and use an email address you control. Keep your password and verification codes confidential. You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account. Do not impersonate others, share access in a way that compromises security, or bypass verification. Notify info@layyoff.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

Candidates, hiring, and referrals

  • Candidates: represent your experience, skills, availability, and professional history honestly. Do not upload or share confidential information belonging to a current or former employer.
  • Hiring teams: represent your organization and vacancies accurately, have authority to recruit, and comply with applicable employment, anti-discrimination, and privacy laws. Use candidate information only for the hiring purpose for which it was shared.
  • Referrers: obtain the person’s permission before sharing their contact details or resume. Share only information you are entitled to disclose and distinguish firsthand experience from opinion. A referral does not guarantee a placement or create an entitlement to a reward.
  • Everyone: treat other participants respectfully. Do not misuse another person’s layoff status or professional circumstances, and do not circulate their information without permission.

Acceptable use

Do not use Layyoff for unlawful, deceptive, discriminatory, harassing, or exploitative activity. Fake jobs, fraudulent referrals, spam, malware, credential theft, unauthorized scraping of personal information, and attempts to disrupt or gain unauthorized access to the service are prohibited. Do not infringe intellectual property, privacy, or confidentiality rights. Report suspected misuse to info@layyoff.com.

Your content and our materials

You retain ownership of resumes, referrals, vacancy descriptions, and other material you provide. You give layyoff a non-exclusive permission to store, reproduce, format, and share that material only as needed to provide the service you request, consistent with your instructions and our Privacy Policy. This permission does not authorize unrelated advertising use of your name or resume.

Job submissions may be reviewed, moderated, standardized, and anonymized before candidates see them. We may publish a separate candidate-facing version while preserving the employer-original submission.

You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to provide your material. Permission ends when the material is deleted, except for copies lawfully retained or previously shared to carry out your request. Recipients may have their own legal retention obligations.

The Layyoff brand, website design, and original site materials belong to layyoff or their respective owners. These terms permit normal use of the website; they do not transfer ownership or grant a right to resell our materials or imply our endorsement.

Fees and separate agreements

The current website does not provide checkout or paid subscriptions. Creating an account does not by itself authorize a charge. Any future paid hiring service, placement fee, subscription, or referral reward must have its price, eligibility, payment, cancellation, and refund terms disclosed and agreed separately before a commitment is made. Where a separate agreement expressly applies to a particular service, it controls any conflict for that service.

Privacy and third parties

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. The website may link to social networks, employer websites, or other external services. Those services operate under their own terms and privacy practices. A link or referral does not mean we endorse or guarantee their content, security, or conduct.

Availability and account closure

We may maintain, change, or discontinue features. We may restrict access or remove content where reasonably necessary to address a breach of these terms, security risks, unlawful activity, or legal requirements. Where practicable and lawful, we will explain the restriction and allow you to contact us about it.

You may stop using the service at any time and request account closure by emailing info@layyoff.com. Personal information is handled as described in the Privacy Policy. Provisions that need to continue by their nature, including ownership and accrued rights, survive closure.

Disclaimers and responsibility

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without a promise of uninterrupted or error-free operation. Professional profiles, vacancies, and referrals may be incomplete or inaccurate. You remain responsible for your hiring, application, and employment decisions.

To the extent permitted by law, layyoff is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the service, such as lost opportunities or anticipated profits. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or any liability or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Questions and disputes

Please contact info@layyoff.com with the relevant details so we can try to resolve a concern. These terms do not impose mandatory arbitration or waive your right to bring a complaint or seek a remedy before a competent court or authority. Applicable law determines your statutory rights and the appropriate forum.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the service or legal requirements. The date above identifies the current version. We will provide appropriate notice of material changes and seek agreement where required by law. Changes apply prospectively. If you do not accept revised terms, you may stop using the service and request account closure.
