Who we are

layyoff (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates Layyoff, a referral-led talent network connecting experienced tech professionals with hiring teams. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit our website, create an account, or contact us.

The website currently supports account registration, email verification, sign-in, and password recovery. Hiring, candidate, and referral features are developing. The sections about career information apply when you choose to share that information with us, including by email; they do not mean every feature is already available.

For privacy matters, contact info@layyoff.com.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your name, email address, verification status, account identifiers, and creation and update dates. Password authentication stores a password hash, rather than your readable password.
  • Authentication and technical information: session identifiers and expiry times, verification and password-reset records, and, where available, IP address and browser or device information. Our hosting services may also process request and error logs.
  • Communications: your email address, message, and any attachments or information you send when requesting help or discussing hiring opportunities.
  • Career and referral information you choose to provide: a resume, work history, skills, professional links, preferences, vacancy details, or referral context. Share another person’s information only with their permission. Do not send identity documents, financial account details, health information, or confidential employer material unless specifically requested for an explained purpose.

How we use information

We use information to create and maintain accounts, verify email addresses, authenticate users, recover access, send service emails, answer enquiries, troubleshoot problems, and prevent abuse. If you ask for hiring or referral support, we use the information you provide to understand that request and help arrange relevant connections.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performing our agreement with you for account services; legitimate interests in securing and operating the service and responding to enquiries, balanced against your rights; consent where required for optional sharing or communications; and legal obligations where applicable. You may withdraw consent by contacting us, without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

When information is shared

  • Service providers: hosting and database providers process information needed to run the website. Resend processes recipients’ email addresses and email content to deliver verification and password-recovery messages. If you sign in with LinkedIn, LinkedIn provides account details needed to authenticate you.
  • Hiring connections: when you request an introduction or authorize a referral, relevant professional information may be shared with the intended hiring team or participant. Creating an account alone does not publish a candidate profile or authorize distribution of your resume.
  • Legal and security needs: information may be disclosed where required by law or reasonably necessary to address fraud, protect people, or establish or defend legal claims.
  • Business changes: if the service is reorganized or transferred, relevant information may be transferred subject to applicable protections and notice requirements.

The current website does not include personal-data sales, advertising trackers, or advertising-based data sharing. Hiring teams and external websites may handle information under their own policies once you interact with them.

Cookies and external services

We use authentication cookies to keep you signed in and support account security. Sessions are configured to expire after seven days, with renewal during use; a short-lived session cache lasts up to five minutes. Verification and reset codes expire after five minutes. Expiration prevents further use and does not necessarily mean the underlying database record is immediately deleted.

You can remove or block cookies in your browser, though account features may stop working. The current website does not include optional analytics or advertising cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy and provide any legally required choices before using them.

Social links take you to third-party services. If you choose LinkedIn sign-in, LinkedIn authenticates your account and shares the profile details shown during its authorization flow with Layyoff.

Retention and security

We keep account information while needed to maintain your account. Communications and voluntarily supplied career information are retained for the enquiry or connection they support. When deciding retention, we consider whether the information remains necessary, account activity, deletion requests, security needs, and applicable legal requirements.

You can request account closure or deletion by email. Some records may need to be retained for legal obligations, dispute resolution, or fraud prevention; backup copies may remain until replaced under the relevant backup cycle. We will explain any applicable retention exception when responding to your request.

We use password hashing and time-limited authentication to help protect accounts. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your password and verification codes private, and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.

International processing

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. The applicable privacy laws may differ. Where law requires safeguards for an international transfer, those safeguards must be in place. Contact us for information about the providers, processing locations, and safeguards relevant to your data.

Your choices and rights

Contact info@layyoff.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, or to close your account. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may also have rights to receive a portable copy, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and complain to your local data protection authority.

Tell us what you would like to request and the email associated with your account. We may need to verify your identity, but do not send your password or verification code. We respond within the timeframe required by applicable law and explain any lawful limitations. Account registration does not itself subscribe you to marketing emails.

Children’s privacy

Layyoff is intended for adults using professional hiring services, not children under 18. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate steps to remove it.

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy as the service or our practices change. The date above identifies the latest version. For material changes, we will provide appropriate notice and obtain consent where required. Please also read our Terms & Conditions.
